8 Ways To Transition From Warm To Cool Home Décor

Although fall officially began a couple of months ago, we’ve been so lucky as to have an Indian Summer this year. The warm weather had us almost forgetting that we’re actually in the fall season and before we know it, winter will be upon us. Fortunately, we still have a few more weeks to enjoy fall, and with that, fall, and soon enough winter, home décor. Below we’ve shared 8 ideas on how you can transition your home décor from the warmer weather to fall and winter.

Paint In Neutral Colours

When it comes time to paint your walls, keep in mind that neutral coloured walls are great for those who like to switch up their home décor from season to season without making huge and expensive changes. Beiges, soft whites, and even light greys calm the room and allow the focus to be put on a particular piece or pieces instead of the room itself. This way, decorate pieces can be swapped out from season to season without having to repaint your walls.

Use Natural Elements

Fall is the perfect season to start bringing the outside in. Incorporate natural elements into your home for an easy (and mostly free) look. Twigs, branches, pinecones, and apples can double as fall and winter décor pieces. A big trend for 2016 seems to be wreathes which can easily be made from natural elements like leaves and twigs.

Change Up Your Accent Colours

The easiest way to transition your home décor is to change up your colours. Replace those bright and summery pillows, blankets, rugs, vases, and other textiles with autumn and winter themed colours like reds, oranges, yellows, purples, blues, and browns.

Change Your Fabrics

As the weather gets colder, the fabrics get thicker. Replace thin cotton blankets with wool or fleece blankets in darker hues and patterns (think dark colours or plaid). More is better in this case, since there’s no such thing as being “too cozy”.

Make Some Scents

Add scented candles or fragrance diffusers in seasonal scents like apple, cinnamon, maple, and pine to the room you spend most of your time in to really transform your home and truly make it feel like autumn and winter.

Decorate Your Front Door

Although the condo lifestyle doesn’t include a front porch, it doesn’t mean you can’t decorate the front of your home to display your personality. Welcome your guests and yourself home every night by decorating your front door with wreathes to start your home décor even before stepping foot into your home.

Change Your Towels

One easy and inexpensive way to transition your home décor from any season to the next is to change the dishtowels in your kitchen and the hand towels in your washrooms. Adding fall and winter themed towels can quickly and inexpensively get your home fall ready!

Fall Plants And Fall Flowers

There are plenty of beautiful flowers that bloom late in the year during fall and winter, but our favourite are the easy-to-care-for mums. Find mums in hues like red, orange, yellow, and purple, which are perfect for attention-grabbing centrepieces. Other autumn flowers include heather flowers, geraniums, and chrysanthemums. Be creative and mix up flowers for a unique look.
